OF THE MONTH
QKS Ltd have been announced as Atlas’ October winner of the ‘Installation of the Month’ competition, winning £200 worth of Screwfix vouchers and £50 Majestic Wine vouchers. But this month there’s a difference… they’ve won with two stunning flat rooflight installations.
Working their installation magic yet again, QKS have transformed a traditional 1950s family house into a stunning, urban property with an extension featuring two Atlas flat rooflights.
Situated in the beautiful town of Stamford in Lincolnshire, the homeowners had recently purchased the property which was in dire need of renovating. As a family with young children, they wanted to add some life into the house and make it an inviting home for their children to grow up in.
Approaching QKS, a previous Atlas Installation of the Year award winner, the homeowners expressed their desire for extra living space that would be big enough for all of the family to relax in at the same time.
To give them as much living space possible, QKS designed an extension that would feature an open plan kitchen where they could cook, live and entertain in just one area. Large bi-folding doors were installed allowing them to move freely between the inside and outside, seamlessly linking the two spaces.
QKS decided to install two Atlas flat rooflights rather than just one to ensure that the natural light reached all corners of the installation. The flat rooflights are different sizes and were installed in different positions to emphasise key features within the kitchen.
A flat rooflight was chosen rather than a lantern so as not to impose or slash with the traditional style of the property. Its minimalistic design blends the modern and traditional styles of the property and the extension together seamlessly, adding a subtle contemporary edge to the property. With young children to focus on, self cleaning glass was chosen to ensure it was low maintenance as much as possible.
The homeowners are over the moon with their new living space, it’s better than they could have ever envisaged. With a modern living space to relax in, the homeowners can enjoy their sky views all year round.
QKS’s second winning installation is a minimalist yet breathtaking extension featuring two black Atlas flat rooflights.
With the most incredible countryside views to take advantage of, the homeowners approached QKS wanting to create a “room with a view”.
The homeowners had inherited a PVCu conservatory with a polycarbonate roof which was constantly cold, ugly and unusable. QKS were tasked with designing an extension that would contrast with their rural chic home but bring the property into the present.
Designing an 11m x 4m extension, the new living space is situated at the back of the house and extends from the kitchen creating a boot room and downstairs cloak room.
The aim of the extension was to make it a feature and not an eyesore so they decided to keep the style of the extension very minimalist. Sliding doors were installed to help give maximum light and allow the homeowners to enjoy their stunning views from the garden.
To bring even more light into the kitchen area, QKS chose to install two Atlas flat rooflights which also helps to achieve the modern streamlined look they were after. The flat rooflights’ sleek design and flat glass made it the perfect choice to obtain the ultra-modern style they were after.
Not only do the flat rooflights flood light on key areas of the area, they also add flair and functionality.
A white K-Rend finish was used to contrast with the traditional brickwork of the property and black aluminium framework and flat rooflights - the result is a simple but stunning space.
Nick Clipston, owner at QKS, commented “This is another fantastic win to add to our collection, we’re so delighted to have won Installation of the Month! These installations are perfect examples of how much impact a flat rooflight can have – simple but very effective. We love to install flat rooflights as they’re very quick and easy to fit and they create a look that homeowners love. Sometimes a showstopping lantern doesn’t suit, and that’s when the flat rooflight comes into its own.”
